A Father Sees a Son (2003) is a unison choral setting of a poem from The People, Yes by Carl Sandburg. It was composed as part of the American Composers Forum's Community Partners Residency Program. This Program, administered by the American Composers Forum — Washington. D.C. Chapter — and funded by the Morris and Gwendolyn Cafritz Foundation, enables community, cultural and educational institutions to select a composer to create original musical works designed around the needs of their specific communities. A Father Sees a Son was composed in collaboration with Theatre & Song, Inc. for the students of the Sky's the Limit workshop, Anna Larson, music director and Shannon Parks drama director, for their production, "An Evening of Shakespeare and Song". The premiere was on August 16, 2003.
